Official opening of new premises in Botswana

At the official opening of Atlas Copco’s new premises in Botswana on 19 November 2009, the Honourable Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry in Botswana, Mrs Dorcas Makgato-Malesu, stated “The choice you have made to invest in Botswana will not only help to grow our economy, but will also create employment and generate income for our people.”

“I have no doubt that your presence in Botswana will be of great benefit to the mining and construction sectors, as well as strengthening our manufacturing sector.” continued the Minister.

“We made the decision to move to new premises in Gaborone not only to strengthen our presence in the region, but to demonstrate our commitment to our customers.” comments Ronnie van der Nest, Country Manager for Atlas Copco Botswana.

From 1991 until 2008, Atlas Copco was represented in Botswana by Rand Air, a company within the Atlas Copco Group. This changed when Atlas Copco made the decision to set up a customer centre that could absorb all the business activities previously managed by Rand Air and then also place focus on the provision of capital equipment and related aftermarket to relevant industries within the country’s borders.

The decision earlier this year to appoint Parts Sales Botswana as the official distributor of Atlas Copco handheld construction equipment and Dynapac road construction equipment for Botswana was based on two factors. In the first place to further increase Atlas Copco’s presence in the region and secondly to ensure that customers who have purchased Atlas Copco or Dynapac construction equipment receive quality after sales support and service.

The opening was well attended by a large number and variety of customers and other relevant stakeholders.
