Sustainable manufacturing with district heating at Dynapac in Karlskrona

Dynapac Compaction Equipment in Karlskrona has decided to further reduce Co2 emissions by installing environmentally friendly district heating. The installation work is now started and will be finalized during spring 2010. As a result, the CO2 emissions will be reduced by approximately 1400 tonnes /year.

Earlier this year, Dynapac Compaction Equipment signed an agreement with Affärsverken Karlskrona AB, which is the local provider of district heating in the area. According to the plans, 50% of the energy needed for manufacturing in Karlskrona, will come from district heating already this fall. The remaining 50% will be achieved during spring 2010.

For Dynapac Compaction Equipment AB the transfer from oil heating to district heating involves an investment of ca 8 MSEK (800 KEuro).

”The change to district heating proved to be a good business case because it involves significant monthly savings in energy and maintenance costs. Our calculations showed that the investment will be fully paid off in 3,5 years ” says Björn Smedberg, general manager for Dynapac Compaction Equipment.  ”We see this as a great opportunity to reduce our CO2 emissions. We also lower the number of (oil) transports to our factory with as many as 100 trucks per year”. The city of Karlskrona welcomes Dynapac´s decision to switch to district heating, as it help the city to reach it´s challenging environmental objectives that should be achieved by 2015.
